Ten Records for Late Summer
Long evenings, open windows, one more song. What we have been playing.
No rules except one: each of these has to sound better with the window open. (Artists and albums are placeholders.)
01 — Harbour Lights, Slow Tide
Eight songs that move like water at the end of a hot day: no hurry, nothing wasted. The third track is the one, and it goes on for eleven minutes, and you will want it to go on longer.
02 — Mira Sol, Paper Rooms
A bedroom record that somehow sounds like a cathedral. Recorded on a borrowed piano over one weekend, and you can hear the weekend in it.
03 — The Lantern Club, Late Arrivals
Four friends, one microphone, a lot of reverb. Best played at the hour when you should be going home and are not.
04 — Ostra, Low Season
Ambient, but with a pulse. The sound of a seaside town after the tourists leave.
05 — Kit & Wren, Second Summer
Guitar pop for people who thought they had grown out of guitar pop. They had not.
