Rei Kawakubo's SIX reaches London, the last of three installations

The magazine ran to eight issues, was given away free and had very few pages of clothes.

Comme des Garçons has brought back SIX, the magazine it published from 1988 to 1991, with an installation by Rei Kawakubo across the Haymarket windows and ground floor of Dover Street Market London. It opened on 13 October 2026, two days before the store's Frieze evening.

SIX came out twice a year to coincide with new collections, ran to eight issues and took its name from the sixth sense. The pages were oversized and image-led, mixing photography, art, architecture, design and film, and very few of them showed any clothes. Copies went free to customers and trade press. Tsuguya Inoue was art director and Atsuko Kozasu editor. Contributors included Robert Frank, André Kertész, Gilbert & George, Eileen Gray and Jean Cocteau, while Peter Lindbergh had more pages than anyone else across the run.

London is the third and final installation. The first wrapped the courtyard pillars of Dover Street Market Paris in March, and the second opened at Comme des Garçons Aoyama in Tokyo a day before London. "There won't be any others," said Adrian Joffe, the president of Comme des Garçons International. Clients in Paris, London and Japan have also been sent a series of mailers that reprint SIX covers and archive pages next to work by Jack Davison and Flor Garduño.

The London store is also selling 12 T-shirt styles usually available only at Trading Museum Comme des Garçons in Tokyo. The DSM e-shop lists eight shirts printed with artworks from the magazine, and by 16 October six had sold out; the other two cost £95 each.

SIX by Comme des Garçons runs for one month from 13 October 2026 at Dover Street Market London, 18–22 Haymarket, London SW1Y 4DG.
