D.S. & Durga has resurrected the corpse flower. It came back as a lily
What happens when a perfumer falls for a flower he can’t stand the smell of.
In January 2025 a corpse flower bloomed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and people queued to smell it. One of them was David Seth Moltz, perfumer and co-founder of D.S. & Durga. He found it disgusting.
Nearly two years later he has released Resurrected Corpse Flower, a limited edition Eau de Parfum at $270 for 50ml. He did not copy the smell. He rebuilt the flower as its opposite: olive, Madonna lily, tuberose and bog cedar, or in the brand's words, "half swamp, half flower".
Cosmopolitan's tester found it damp, fresh and faintly banana-sweet, with "thankfully zero hint of 'corpse' anywhere to be found". The brand's own FAQ asks whether it smells like the real thing. Luckily, it doesn't.
Available now at D.S. & Durga for $270.
